As night falls on Sri Lanka's southern shores, sea turtles continue their timeless ritual of nesting in our golden sand, each carrying stories of perseverance that are lessons for us all. Through mindful tourism and support for coastal communities, spectators can become guardians of marine life and keep these nesting grounds safe.
Place the May origami sheet in front of you on a flat surface.
Turn the sheet over so that the dated side faces up.
Fold in half vertically, crease and unfold. Turn the paper over (always go left to right when you turn).
Fold the two top corners diagonally to the centre line.

Fold the left diagonal edge to the centre line, along one layer only. Make sure not to crease the flaps created in the previous step (see picture). Repeat on the right side.
Fold the bottom left corner up diagonally, aligning the bottom edge of the paper with the centre line. Repeat on the right side.
Fold the left flap out, aligning the reference point with the bottom edge. Repeat on the right side.
Turn the paper over again.

Fold the left flap out, aligning the reference point with the bottom edge. Repeat on the right side.
Fold the top corner of the shape down.
Fold the top flap back up, aligning the circled points.
Fold the two marked edges, aligning the side edges with the top edges. Crease well and unfold.
Using the creases you just made, swivel-fold each inner corner towards the centre.

Pleat the bottom to create the tail.
Turn the model over and pleat the bottom edge inwards so that only the tip of the tail is visible.
Narrow the body slightly by folding gently down the middle.
Narrow the arms and legs by pinching gently along their middle, and your turtle is complete!
